Job Description
We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Retail Buyer to join our dynamic buying team based in Warrington, Cheshire. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category strategies aligned with B&M’s commercial objectives and brand identity.
- Identify, source, and select new products and suppliers, negotiating competitive pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
- Manage existing supplier relationships, fostering strong partnerships and ensuring adherence to contractual agreements and ethical trading standards.
- Conduct comprehensive market research, competitor analysis, and trend forecasting to inform product development and range planning.
- Work collaboratively with the merchandising team to optimize product assortments, stock levels, and promotional activities.
- Monitor sales performance, analyze key metrics, and take proactive measures to achieve sales, margin, and inventory targets.
- Ensure all products comply with relevant safety standards, quality specifications, and B&M's brand guidelines.
- Prepare and present regular reports on category performance, market insights, and strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of buying processes and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven buying experience within a fast-paced retail environment.
- Exceptional negotiation and influencing skills, with a track record of securing favourable terms.
- Strong commercial acumen and a deep understanding of retail buying principles, including margin management and inventory control.
- Excellent analytical skills, proficient in interpreting data to drive commercial decisions.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining effective relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree in Business, Retail Management, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field.
- Experience working within a value retail or discount retailer.
- Familiarity with ERP/Merchandise Planning systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Knowledge of supply chain logistics and international sourcing practices.
