Job Description

As a Renewable Energy Engineer at Masdar, you will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and implementing innovative renewable energy solutions across various technologies, including solar PV, concentrated solar power (CSP), and wind energy. This pivotal role involves contributing to projects from their initial concept phase through detailed design, construction, and commissioning. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success, adherence to technical specifications, and compliance with local and international industry standards and regulations. Your expertise will be crucial in optimizing system performance, conducting comprehensive feasibility studies, and integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of our projects. You will be expected to analyze complex technical data, prepare comprehensive reports, and present findings to project teams and senior management. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on some of the world’s most ambitious renewable energy projects, contributing directly to a cleaner, more sustainable future for the UAE and beyond. You will be instrumental in evaluating new technologies, conducting due diligence for potential investments, and supporting the ongoing operation and maintenance strategies for our diverse portfolio of assets. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to adapt to evolving technological landscapes and project requirements. You will also play a role in mentoring junior engineers and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and innovation within our engineering department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, technical assessments, and site evaluations for new renewable energy projects (solar, wind, etc.).
  • Design and optimize renewable energy systems, including system architecture, component selection, and performance modeling.
  • Develop detailed engineering specifications, drawings, and documentation in accordance with international standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams on vendor selection and technical evaluation of equipment and services.
  • Provide expert technical support during project construction, commissioning, and operational phases, ensuring adherence to design.
  • Monitor project performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement optimization strategies to enhance efficiency and output.
  • Perform energy yield assessments, loss analyses, and ensure project targets and guarantees are met.
  • Stay abreast of emerging renewable energy technologies, industry trends, and relevant regulatory changes.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and contribute to project proposals and bids.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and Masdar's internal policies.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in renewable energy project development, design, or engineering.
  • Proficiency in renewable energy design and simulation software (e.g., PVSyst, WindSim, Homer Pro, AutoCAD).
  • Strong understanding of solar PV, wind turbine technology, or other major renewable energy technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical systems, power electronics, and grid integration challenges.
  • Familiarity with international engineering standards and codes (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NEC).
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or Chartered Engineer status.
  • Experience with energy storage systems (e.g., utility-scale battery storage).
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP).
  • Knowledge of Middle East specific regulations, market dynamics, and cultural nuances.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and plant monitoring and control systems.
