Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Remote Wool Classer to join our innovative team at BKB Ltd. While the traditional role of a Wool Classer is hands-on, this unique position leverages cutting-edge technology and remote communication to ensure the highest standards of wool classification, quality control, and producer support across our extensive network. You will be instrumental in maintaining BKB’s reputation for premium wool products, working virtually to guide, audit, and educate producers and field staff on best practices, classification standards, and evolving industry regulations. This role demands a keen eye for detail, exceptional communication skills, and a deep understanding of wool science and market demands, all executed from a remote setting. You will actively contribute to our digital initiatives, potentially involving virtual assessments, data analysis, and the development of remote training modules. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to redefine the role of a Wool Classer in a digitally-forward agricultural environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide remote expert guidance and consultation to wool producers and BKB field agents on wool classing standards, preparation techniques, and optimal presentation for market.
  • Conduct virtual audits and quality checks of classified wool clips through digital submissions (e.g., photos, videos, data reports) received from various farms.
  • Develop and deliver remote training modules and workshops for new and existing wool classers and producers on best practices, industry updates, and BKB-specific requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze wool quality data and market trends remotely to advise on optimal classification strategies and market positioning.
  • Assist in the resolution of classification disputes or discrepancies through remote assessment and providing expert opinions.
  • Maintain comprehensive digital records of classification activities, producer interactions, and quality assurance reports.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (marketing, logistics, sales) virtually to ensure seamless integration of classified wool into the supply chain.
  • Stay abreast of national and international wool market specifications, technological advancements in classification, and regulatory changes, advising the company accordingly.
  • Participate in the development and refinement of remote sensing or AI-assisted classification tools by providing expert input and feedback.

Required Skills

  • Certified Wool Classer qualification (or equivalent recognised certification)
  • Minimum 3 years of practical experience in wool classing and preparation
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools (video conferencing, collaboration platforms)
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for remote quality assessment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment
  • In-depth knowledge of wool types, qualities, and market specifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field
  • Experience with remote learning platform development or delivery
  • Familiarity with agricultural software and data management systems
