Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Remote Warehouse Manager to strategically oversee and optimize our agricultural supplies warehousing and logistics operations. This is a unique opportunity to manage critical supply chain functions from a remote base in Tafelkop, Free State, leveraging technology to ensure seamless operations across GWK’s regional network. The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and optimization of inventory management, storage, and distribution of agricultural inputs and products. While this role is remote, it demands a strong understanding of physical warehouse operations, inventory control systems, and logistics best practices, with a focus on implementing these through digital tools and robust communication channels. You will collaborate closely with on-site teams, suppliers, and logistics partners to maintain high levels of inventory accuracy, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This role is perfect for a proactive leader with a proven track record in supply chain management who can thrive in a remote work environment, using their expertise to drive efficiency and innovation in agricultural logistics. Your focus will be on ensuring the availability of critical agricultural supplies, optimizing storage solutions, minimizing waste, and streamlining the entire process from procurement to final distribution, all while operating effectively from your remote office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor remote strategies for warehouse operations, inventory management, and distribution of agricultural supplies.
  • Utilize advanced Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software to ensure accurate inventory tracking, order fulfillment, and stock rotation.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with on-site warehouse teams, logistics partners, and freight carriers to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
  • Analyze supply chain data, performance metrics, and key indicators to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions remotely.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors, managing procurement processes for warehouse-related equipment and services.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, quality standards, and industry best practices across all managed warehouse facilities through remote auditing and reporting mechanisms.
  • Implement and oversee robust stock control procedures, conducting regular remote audits and reconciliations to minimize discrepancies and losses.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on warehouse performance, inventory levels, and logistical efficiencies for senior management.
  • Lead and mentor a distributed team of warehouse supervisors and staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability through virtual channels.
  • Optimize storage layouts and material flow processes to maximize space utilization and operational efficiency across various locations.
  • Manage the budget for warehousing and logistics operations, identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring financial targets are met.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in warehouse management or supply chain logistics, preferably within the agricultural sector.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Exceptional remote communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate teams remotely.
  • In-depth knowledge of inventory control principles, shipping/receiving procedures, and agricultural supply chain dynamics.
  • Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to warehousing.
  • High level of organizational skill and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certifications in inventory management (e.g., CPIM) or project management.
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Familiarity with South African agricultural practices and regulatory environments.
  • Experience managing multiple, geographically dispersed warehouse operations.
