Gansbaai & Pearly Beach Tourism is seeking a highly motivated and creative Remote Virtual Tour Guide (Marine & Nature Specialist) to join our team. In this pivotal remote role, you will be instrumental in developing, producing, and delivering immersive online content and live virtual tours that highlight the unique biodiversity and natural attractions of the Hawston and broader Gansbaai region. Your mission will be to transport viewers from around the globe directly into the heart of our spectacular marine sanctuaries, fynbos landscapes, and avian habitats. This isn’t about traditional physical tours; it’s about crafting compelling digital narratives, conducting interactive virtual excursions, and creating educational modules that foster appreciation and understanding of our precious environment. You will research local flora and fauna, marine megafauna, geological formations, and cultural heritage, translating complex information into accessible and exciting presentations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent presentation skills, a strong grasp of digital media tools, and an unwavering commitment to environmental education. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver engaging live virtual tours and pre-recorded content showcasing Hawston’s marine and nature attractions (e.g., whale watching, fynbos, birdlife).
- Conduct thorough research on local ecology, wildlife, history, and conservation efforts to ensure accuracy and depth in all presentations.
- Utilize digital platforms and tools (e.g., Zoom, virtual reality platforms, interactive maps) to create immersive and interactive experiences.
- Engage with online audiences, facilitate Q&A sessions, and respond to comments and queries in a professional and informative manner.
- Create compelling scripts, storyboards, and visual aids for virtual tours and educational modules.
- Collaborate with marketing and content teams to promote virtual experiences and reach a broader audience.
- Stay updated on best practices in virtual tourism, digital storytelling, and environmental education.
- Assist in the collection and curation of digital assets (photos, videos) relevant to tour content.
- Provide insightful commentary and foster a sense of wonder and connection with the natural world.
- Monitor and report on the performance and audience engagement of virtual tours and content.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in content creation, digital media, or online education.
- Deep knowledge and passion for marine biology, nature conservation, or environmental science, particularly within the South African context.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proficiency with virtual meeting and presentation software (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet).
- Strong research and information synthesis abilities.
