Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough virtual consultations for both companion animals and livestock, utilizing video conferencing and digital diagnostic tools.
- Accurately diagnose medical conditions, recommend appropriate treatment plans, and provide preventative care advice remotely.
- Educate pet owners and farmers on animal health, nutrition, husbandry, and medication administration.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate electronic medical records for all cases in compliance with veterinary regulations.
- Provide emergency triage and guidance to clients during urgent situations, facilitating referral to local on-site services when necessary.
- Collaborate with local animal welfare organizations, agricultural extension officers, and on-site veterinarians to ensure coordinated care.
- Stay updated on the latest veterinary advancements, telemedicine best practices, and regional animal health concerns through continuous professional development.
- Manage prescriptions and ensure compliance with all relevant veterinary regulations and ethical guidelines.
- Participate in remote team meetings and contribute to the development of telemedicine protocols and services.
Required Skills
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification clinical experience in a veterinary practice.
- Proficiency in telemedicine platforms and veterinary practice management software.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for client and team interactions.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities, capable of independent clinical decision-making.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize cases in a remote setting.
- Empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to animal care and client interactions.
