Job Description

Child Welfare South Africa is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Remote Social Worker to provide essential child and family support services within the Libode area of the Eastern Cape. This pivotal role requires a self-motivated professional committed to upholding the rights and well-being of children and vulnerable families in a remote work setting. While your primary base will be remote, you will be expected to effectively manage a caseload, conduct virtual assessments, and coordinate in-person interventions as required, ensuring comprehensive support for your clients. This role demands strong independent work ethic, exceptional communication skills, and a deep understanding of the unique socio-economic challenges faced by communities in rural Eastern Cape. You will be responsible for providing a range of social work interventions, including counseling, psycho-social support, crisis intervention, and facilitating access to essential services. You will also play a crucial role in advocating for children’s rights, promoting family preservation, and collaborating with local community structures and government departments to foster a protective environment for children. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, adaptable, and possess a profound sense of empathy, with a proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessments of children and families remotely and, where necessary, through planned in-person visits.
  • Develop and implement individualised intervention plans, including counseling, therapy, and support services, tailored to client needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention and trauma support to children and families experiencing acute distress or neglect.
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate community resources, government agencies, and partner organisations for specialised support.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, case notes, and reports in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
  • Advocate for the rights and best interests of children in various forums, including court proceedings and inter-sectoral meetings.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, schools, health facilities, and local community leaders to ensure holistic client support.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups to monitor progress, evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and adjust plans as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and supervision to enhance skills and adhere to ethical practice.
  • Educate communities on child protection issues, parental responsibilities, and available social welfare services.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Honours Degree in Social Work.
  • Current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional social work experience, preferably with children and families.
  • Proficiency in conducting remote assessments and delivering virtual support services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and isiXhosa.
  • Strong crisis intervention and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • High level of empathy, integrity, and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a caseload effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with case management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Experience working in rural or peri-urban communities.
  • Familiarity with the socio-economic context and specific challenges of the Eastern Cape province.
  • Experience in child protection, foster care, or family preservation programmes.
