VKB Group is actively seeking a highly skilled and independent Professional Truck Driver to join our dynamic logistics team. This is a unique ‘remote’ driving opportunity, meaning you will primarily operate on designated routes across the Free State and potentially broader South Africa, with dispatch, route planning, and reporting managed remotely. While your daily work will be on the road, your connection to our team will be through modern communication and logistics technology, ensuring seamless operations and support. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of various agricultural products and supplies, playing a critical role in our supply chain. We are looking for a reliable individual with a strong commitment to road safety, adherence to regulations, and meticulous attention to detail. This role offers the autonomy of remote work, providing you with the flexibility to manage your routes efficiently while leveraging cutting-edge remote tracking and communication systems to stay connected with our central dispatch. If you are an experienced Code 14/EC driver who thrives on independence, embraces technology for remote coordination, and takes pride in contributing to a vital industry, we encourage you to apply. This position combines the freedom of the open road with the stability and professional backing of a well-established and respected organization, offering significant contribution to our operational success across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks (Code 14/EC vehicles) to transport goods across specified routes within the Free State and other provinces.
- Perform comprehensive pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Accurately load and unload cargo, ensuring proper securing, weight distribution, and adherence to all safety standards and regulations.
- Strictly adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and relevant national and provincial transportation regulations (e.g., hours of service, hazardous materials handling if applicable).
- Maintain precise electronic logs of working hours, vehicle inspections, and service records using provided digital tools.
- Communicate effectively and promptly with dispatch and logistics coordinators regarding pick-ups, deliveries, potential delays, or any issues encountered on the road via remote communication platforms.
- Strategically plan and optimize routes using advanced navigation software and company guidelines to ensure timely and efficient deliveries.
- Represent VKB Group professionally and courteously to clients, suppliers, and partners during all delivery and interaction points.
- Perform minor roadside repairs and routine maintenance checks when necessary, ensuring vehicle uptime and operational safety.
- Complete and submit all required documentation (e.g., delivery notes, fuel receipts, incident reports) accurately and remotely through designated digital channels.
Required Skills
- Valid Code 14/EC Driver's License with a valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) for heavy goods vehicles.
- Minimum of 2 years verifiable heavy-duty truck driving experience, preferably in long-haul or regional freight.
- Impeccable driving record with no major traffic violations.
- Strong understanding of road safety regulations, vehicle operation, and cargo securing procedures.
- Ability to operate vehicles safely and efficiently in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.
- Proficiency in using GPS navigation, mobile communication devices, and electronic logging devices (ELDs) for remote dispatch and reporting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear interaction with dispatch, clients, and team members.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for conducting vehicle inspections and performing minor troubleshooting or repairs.
- Physical ability to load/unload cargo, perform comprehensive vehicle inspections, and manage the demands of long-distance driving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with agricultural logistics, bulk commodity transportation, or perishable goods handling.
- Additional endorsements, such as for hazardous materials (HazMat) or specialized equipment.
- Demonstrated experience with specific fleet management software or advanced telematics systems.
- A proven track record of excellent customer service and proactive problem-solving abilities on the road.
- Exceptional ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and make sound decisions without direct supervision.
- Extensive familiarity with the Free State and national road network of South Africa.
Perks & Benefits
- Competitive salary package and performance-based incentives.
- Comprehensive medical aid and retirement benefit schemes.
- Opportunities for continuous professional development and advanced driver training.
- Access to a modern, well-maintained fleet of vehicles equipped with advanced safety features.
