Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Remote Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team, based out of Springbok, Northern Cape, though working entirely remotely. This unique opportunity allows you to contribute to cutting-edge mining projects across various commodities and regions from the comfort of your home office. As a Remote Mining Engineer, you will be instrumental in delivering critical engineering services, including mine design, planning, optimization, and feasibility studies. Your role will involve leveraging advanced mining software to develop robust solutions, conduct in-depth data analysis, and prepare comprehensive technical reports for our diverse client base. You will collaborate virtually with multi-disciplinary teams of geologists, metallurgists, environmental scientists, and other engineers, fostering a highly communicative and efficient remote working environment. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive desktop-based feasibility studies, scoping studies, and pre-feasibility studies for mining projects.
- Develop and optimize mine designs, production schedules, and infrastructure layouts using specialized mining software (e.g., Surpac, Datamine, Whittle, MineRP).
- Perform detailed technical and economic analyses, including financial modelling and risk assessment, to support project evaluations.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and proposals for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively with virtual multidisciplinary teams, including geologists, metallurgists, and environmental specialists.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes in the mining sector.
- Participate in virtual client meetings, present project findings, and provide expert technical advice.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the global SRK network.
- Ensure all work adheres to SRK's quality standards, safety protocols, and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in mine planning, design, or operations.
- Proven proficiency in leading mining software packages (e.g., Surpac, Datamine, MineRP, Whittle).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in a remote collaborative setting.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects efficiently.
- Demonstrated understanding of mining economics and project evaluation techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) or equivalent international body.
- Experience with open-pit and/or underground mining methods.
- Familiarity with geological modelling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Micromine).
- Prior experience in a consulting environment or managing remote projects.
- Multilingual capabilities (e.g., Afrikaans, Xhosa) are an advantage for regional projects.
