Job Description
We are seeking an exceptionally skilled and proactive Remote Maintenance Fitter (Plant) Specialist to join our dynamic team, focusing on our Ulco plant operations from a remote setup. This unique role is designed for a highly experienced professional capable of providing expert technical guidance, diagnostic support, and strategic maintenance planning for complex plant machinery and systems without requiring constant physical presence on-site. Leveraging cutting-edge remote monitoring tools, virtual collaboration platforms, and your extensive mechanical and electrical fitting knowledge, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring optimal plant uptime, efficiency, and safety. Your responsibilities will include remote fault analysis, preventative maintenance scheduling, developing technical procedures, and offering real-time assistance to on-site teams. This is a critical position that demands superior problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a forward-thinking approach to industrial maintenance in a remote-first environment. While the primary mode of work is remote, occasional, pre-planned site visits to the Ulco plant for critical diagnostics, audits, or specialized training might be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide remote expert technical support and guidance to on-site maintenance teams for mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic plant equipment.
- Conduct virtual diagnostic assessments of equipment malfunctions, interpret data from remote monitoring systems, and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and optimize preventative and predictive maintenance schedules and procedures based on remote data analysis and equipment history.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement long-term solutions.
- Create and update technical documentation, maintenance manuals, and training materials for various plant systems.
- Assist in the procurement of spare parts and specialized tools, ensuring availability for critical maintenance tasks.
- Participate in virtual meetings for project planning, safety audits, and operational reviews.
- Provide remote training and mentorship to junior fitters and technicians on best practices and new technologies.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies through remote oversight and procedural development.
Required Skills
- Recognized Trade Test Certificate as a Fitter and Turner or relevant mechanical qualification.
- Minimum of 4 years’ post-qualification experience as a Maintenance Fitter in a heavy industrial plant environment (e.g., cement, mining, manufacturing).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyors, crushers, mills, and associated plant machinery.
- Demonstrated ability to perform remote diagnostics and troubleshooting using digital tools and software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for remote team collaboration and documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with advanced predictive maintenance technologies (e.g., vibration analysis, thermal imaging, oil analysis).
- Knowledge of PLC systems and basic electrical fault finding.
- Previous experience in a remote support or specialist role within an industrial setting.
- Certification in specific plant equipment maintenance or safety standards.
