Job Description
Are you a skilled Landscaper with a keen eye for design, a passion for sustainable horticulture, and the ability to manage projects from a distance? Klein Karoo International is seeking a dedicated and self-motivated Remote Landscape Design & Project Coordinator to join our team. While this role is primarily remote, offering unparalleled flexibility, it is crucial for a Landscaper role to understand that occasional site visits to our various properties across the Western Cape, including around Leeu-Gamka, will be essential to ensure project success and maintain design integrity. You will be instrumental in conceptualizing, planning, and overseeing the landscaping of our diverse agricultural, residential, and eco-tourism sites. This unique opportunity allows you to blend your expertise in landscape architecture with project management, utilizing digital tools and strong communication to collaborate with on-site teams and external contractors. We are looking for an individual who can translate our vision for beautiful, functional, and ecologically sound outdoor spaces into reality, contributing to the overall aesthetic and environmental value of our extensive land holdings.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative and sustainable landscape designs and detailed plans for various company properties, utilizing remote design software and tools.
- Coordinate all aspects of landscaping projects, including scheduling, resource allocation, and budget management, primarily through virtual communication and collaboration platforms.
- Liaise effectively with on-site property managers, groundskeeping teams, and external landscaping contractors to ensure seamless project execution.
- Conduct virtual site assessments and provide actionable feedback, complementing occasional in-person site visits to verify progress and quality.
- Source and procure appropriate plant materials, hardscaping elements, and landscaping supplies, prioritizing indigenous and water-wise options.
- Implement and advocate for environmentally friendly landscaping practices, including water conservation, soil health, and biodiversity enhancement.
- Monitor project timelines and expenditures, ensuring projects are completed within scope and budget.
- Prepare comprehensive project reports, design presentations, and maintenance guidelines for completed landscapes.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in landscape design and sustainable horticulture.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on landscape maintenance, pest control, and plant health to on-site teams.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven professional experience in landscape design, horticulture, or project management.
- Proficiency in landscape design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite) and strong digital collaboration skills.
- In-depth knowledge of South African indigenous flora, particularly species suitable for the Karoo biome and Western Cape climate.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective remote team collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a creative approach to design challenges.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally for site visits within the Western Cape region.
- Understanding of sustainable landscaping practices, including water harvesting and low-maintenance design principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification (Diploma or Degree) in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Experience specifically with large-scale agricultural, conservation, or eco-tourism property landscaping projects.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems design, installation, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with local government regulations pertaining to landscaping and environmental conservation.
- Certification in permaculture or other sustainable design methodologies.
