Are you an enthusiastic and dedicated educator passionate about shaping young minds, even across distances? UCT Online High School is seeking highly motivated and qualified Remote High School Teachers to deliver exceptional instruction and support to our diverse student body. As a Remote High School Teacher, you will be instrumental in guiding learners through their academic journey, fostering a deep understanding of subject matter, and encouraging independent learning. This role requires a strong grasp of online teaching methodologies, excellent communication skills, and the ability to connect with students in a virtual environment. You will facilitate engaging online lessons, provide personalized feedback, and contribute to a vibrant online learning community, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive. We are looking for educators across various subjects, including but not limited to Mathematics, Physical Sciences, English Home Language, Accounting, and Information Technology. This is a full-time remote position, allowing you to make a significant impact from anywhere in South Africa while being part of a leading institution in online education.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective online lessons aligned with the CAPS curriculum.
- Utilize various digital tools and platforms (e.g., Learning Management Systems, video conferencing) to facilitate interactive and dynamic learning experiences.
- Provide timely, constructive, and personalized feedback on student assignments, projects, and assessments.
- Monitor student progress and identify areas for intervention or additional support, collaborating with support staff as needed.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic performance, well-being, and school-related information.
- Actively participate in online professional development sessions, team meetings, and collaborative curriculum development initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, communication, and performance data.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating virtual classroom environment that encourages student participation and critical thinking.
- Adapt teaching methods and resources to cater to diverse learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the UCT Online High School curriculum, pedagogical practices, and student support strategies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or a relevant Bachelor's Degree with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
- Valid SACE registration (South African Council for Educators).
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) of high school teaching experience, preferably in an online or blended learning environment.
- Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Google Classroom, Moodle, or similar platforms, and other educational technologies (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly in a virtual setting.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities to effectively manage lesson planning, grading, and student interactions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote, collaborative team.
- Demonstrated passion for online education and a commitment to student success in a digital learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with and in-depth knowledge of the CAPS curriculum across multiple subjects.
- Master's Degree in Education or a related pedagogical field.
- Specialization or expertise in high-demand subjects such as Mathematics, Physical Sciences, English Home Language, Accounting, or Information Technology.
- Proven track record of improving student academic outcomes and engagement in an online setting.
- Familiarity with data-driven instruction and various online assessment strategies.
- Certification in online teaching or e-learning methodologies.
