Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough virtual consultations, including comprehensive history taking, clinical assessment, and accurate diagnosis using secure telemedicine platforms.
- Formulate and implement individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications and ordering necessary diagnostic tests.
- Provide ongoing management for acute and chronic medical conditions, monitoring patient progress and adjusting treatments as required.
- Offer proactive preventative healthcare advice, engaging patients in health education, and providing lifestyle counselling.
- Facilitate timely and appropriate referrals to specialists or for in-person evaluations when medically indicated, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
- Maintain meticulous and confidential electronic medical records (EMRs) in full compliance with professional, legal, and ethical standards.
- Actively participate in clinical governance activities and pursue continuous professional development to ensure practices remain current and evidence-based.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including nurses, specialists, and administrative staff, utilizing virtual communication tools.
- Adhere strictly to all medical ethics, patient confidentiality protocols, and national healthcare regulations as set forth by the HPCSA.
- Utilize telemedicine technology efficiently for all patient interactions, secure data handling, and internal communications, ensuring optimal operational flow.
Required Skills
- Valid medical degree (MBChB or equivalent) from a recognized medical institution.
- Current and unrestricted registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent General Practitioner.
- Minimum of 2 years post-community service experience as a General Practitioner.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency with telemedicine platforms and remote consultation methodologies.
- Exceptional diagnostic acumen and strong clinical reasoning skills, adaptable to a remote setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Afrikaans is highly advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal skills, embodying empathy, active listening, and a patient-centered approach.
- High level of computer literacy and comfort with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and digital tools.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and manage a diverse patient caseload efficiently and effectively.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and a dedicated, private, and professional home office environment suitable for confidential consultations.

- Postgraduate diploma or certificate in a relevant medical field (e.g., Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Public Health).
- Previous experience working in a rural or underserved community healthcare setting.

- Proficiency in additional South African official languages relevant to the Northern Cape population.
