Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct remote consultations with bereaved families to discuss funeral arrangements, service options, and pre-need planning via video conferencing and phone.
  • Provide compassionate guidance and support to families, addressing their needs and respecting their cultural and religious preferences.
  • Coordinate all aspects of funeral services with local AVBOB branches, mortuary staff, external suppliers (e.g., florists, caterers, clergy), and cemeteries/crematoria, ensuring seamless execution.
  • Manage and process all necessary documentation, including death certificates, permits, and financial agreements, ensuring compliance with local and national regulations.
  • Develop and present personalized service tributes and memorial programs, capturing the essence of the deceased's life.
  • Offer initial grief support resources and connect families with appropriate counseling services and community support networks.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all arrangements, communications, and financial transactions.
  • Administer and manage pre-need funeral contracts and explain various insurance products offered by AVBOB to potential clients.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, local regulations, and AVBOB's comprehensive service offerings and policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with a remote team and local operational staff to ensure seamless and high-quality service delivery.
  • Handle inquiries, resolve issues, and provide timely responses to families and internal stakeholders with professionalism and empathy.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Funeral Director or in a similar client-facing role within the funeral industry.
  • Exceptional empathy, patience, and superior interpersonal communication skills, particularly in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities, with meticulous attention to detail and record-keeping.
  • Proficiency in using virtual communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and standard office software (e.g., MS Office Suite, email).
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks efficiently in a remote setting.
  • Deep understanding of funeral customs, traditions, and legal requirements in South Africa, specifically within the Eastern Cape.
