KLK Landbou is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Remote Farm Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic team, serving the agricultural community in Britstown and the surrounding Northern Cape region. This unique ‘remote’ role is designed for a self-motivated individual who excels at independent work, managing their schedule, and providing critical mechanical support to our farming clients. While your administrative, diagnostic planning, and parts coordination will be conducted remotely from a home-based office, your primary responsibility will involve travelling to various farm sites to perform essential maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of agricultural machinery. Key Responsibilities
- Perform remote diagnostics and troubleshooting of complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on various farm equipment using available diagnostic tools and software.
- Travel to farm sites within the Britstown area and surrounding regions to conduct on-site maintenance, repairs, and inspections of agricultural machinery, including tractors, harvesters, planters, and irrigation systems.
- Execute scheduled preventative maintenance tasks to extend equipment lifespan and ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and rectify faults promptly and efficiently, minimizing equipment downtime for farmers.
- Order necessary parts and manage inventory for repairs, coordinating with suppliers and company logistics remotely.
- Provide technical guidance and training to farm operators on proper equipment operation and basic maintenance procedures.
- Complete and submit accurate service reports, time sheets, and expense reports digitally from your remote base.
- Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to all safety regulations and company policies.
- Continuously update knowledge of new equipment models, technologies, and repair techniques through remote training and self-study.
- Manage your own schedule effectively to prioritize urgent repairs and routine maintenance tasks.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with KLK Landbou clients.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Farm Equipment Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and power trains.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools and software specific to agricultural machinery (e.g., John Deere Service Advisor, Case IH EST).
- Ability to work independently and manage a remote workload efficiently, demonstrating strong self-discipline.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Valid South African driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in using digital tools for reporting and communication (e.g., email, mobile apps, remote conferencing).
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade certificate/diploma in Agricultural Mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, or a related field.
- Prior experience with multiple brands of agricultural equipment (e.g., John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Massey Ferguson).
- Familiarity with precision agriculture technologies (GPS, auto-steer, variable rate application).
- Basic welding and fabrication skills.
- Residency in Britstown or a closely surrounding area, with a suitable home-based setup for remote work.
