Decade Construction (Pty) Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Remote Custom Carpentry Specialist to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced carpenter who excels in design, precision fabrication, and project management, and thrives in a remote work environment. While based remotely, primarily from your dedicated home workshop or office, you will be an integral part of our project execution, focusing on bespoke carpentry elements for various residential and commercial projects across the Free State and surrounding regions.
Your role will involve transforming conceptual designs into detailed fabrication plans, sourcing and managing materials, and producing high-quality custom millwork, cabinetry, furniture, and intricate wooden structures. Although the primary work mode is remote, the position requires periodic travel to client sites within Petrus Steyn and the broader Free State for initial consultations, precise measurements, final installation supervision, and quality checks. You will be responsible for managing your project timelines, ensuring efficient use of resources, and maintaining clear communication with clients and our project management team. This role demands exceptional problem-solving abilities, a keen eye for detail, and the autonomy to manage complex tasks independently while upholding Decade Construction’s reputation for superior craftsmanship. We are looking for someone who can not only build but also envision, design, and manage the entire custom carpentry lifecycle remotely, bringing their expertise directly to our diverse range of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed carpentry designs and fabrication plans based on client specifications and architectural drawings.
- Manage material procurement, ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery for custom projects.
- Conduct virtual and in-person client consultations, taking precise measurements on-site as required.
- Fabricate high-quality custom wooden components, cabinetry, furniture, and millwork in a dedicated home workshop.
- Ensure all custom pieces meet stringent quality standards and design specifications.
- Coordinate with project managers and other trades to ensure seamless integration of carpentry elements.
- Oversee the final installation of fabricated items on-site, ensuring accuracy and client satisfaction.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe remote workshop environment.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and reporting for all assigned carpentry tasks.
- Provide expert advice and solutions for complex carpentry challenges.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Carpenter, with a strong portfolio of custom work.
- Expertise in all aspects of carpentry, including framing, trim, cabinetry, and custom millwork.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and design specifications.
- Strong understanding of various wood types, materials, and finishing techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of carpentry tools, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects remotely.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp) for design and planning.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interaction.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- Possession of a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license for site visits.
- Access to a well-equipped and professional home workshop suitable for custom fabrication.
Preferred Qualifications
- NQF Level 4 or higher qualification in Carpentry, Joinery, or a related trade.
- Experience with advanced woodworking machinery and techniques.
- Proven track record of successful client-facing project management.
