Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Remote Borewell Technician to join our dynamic team, operating within the Colesberg region of the Northern Cape. This unique remote role requires a proactive and resourceful individual capable of managing and overseeing all aspects of borewell maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting from a remote base, with planned site visits as required. As a Borewell Technician, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient and sustainable operation of water supply systems critical to agricultural success in the Karoo. Key Responsibilities
- Remotely monitor and diagnose issues with borewell systems, pumps, and associated infrastructure across various GWK sites, primarily in the Colesberg region.
- Develop and implement remote maintenance schedules and preventative measures to ensure optimal borewell performance and longevity.
- Coordinate and direct local field teams for on-site inspections, repairs, and new borewell installations, providing expert technical guidance remotely.
- Conduct comprehensive data analysis from remote sensors and monitoring equipment to identify trends, predict potential failures, and optimize water abstraction.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydrological problems associated with borewells and pump systems through remote diagnostics and on-site direction.
- Maintain accurate and detailed digital records of borewell specifications, maintenance activities, water quality reports, and operational data.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations pertaining to borewell operations.
- Advise farmers and internal stakeholders on best practices for borewell management, water conservation, and system upgrades via remote consultations.
- Manage inventory of spare parts and equipment, ensuring availability for timely repairs and installations by coordinating with suppliers and field teams.
- Participate in the planning and execution of new borewell projects, from site selection to commissioning, with remote oversight and occasional site visits.
- Provide emergency remote support and guidance during critical borewell failures, minimizing downtime and impact on agricultural operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Borewell Technician or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of borewell drilling techniques, pump systems (submersible, centrifugal), and associated electrical controls.
- Proficiency in remote monitoring technologies, SCADA systems, and data analysis tools relevant to borewell management.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues remotely.
- Solid knowledge of water quality testing procedures and basic hydrological principles.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, and electrical schematics.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for remote team coordination and stakeholder interaction.
- High level of self-discipline, organizational skills, and time management to excel in a remote work environment.
- Valid South African driver’s license and willingness to travel for necessary site visits.
