Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical, psychological, and social aspects, and document findings accurately and thoroughly.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, adhering strictly to Mediclinic policies and procedures, and professional nursing standards.
- Monitor and interpret patient vital signs, laboratory results, and other diagnostic data, reporting any significant changes promptly to medical staff.
- Provide advanced wound care, manage intravenous lines, catheters, and other medical devices with precision and strict sterile technique.
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions, medication management, discharge planning, and essential self-care strategies to promote recovery.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely electronic health records and other relevant documentation, ensuring patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate effectively with doctors, specialists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and optimal outcomes.
- Participate actively in ward meetings, continuous professional development activities, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
- Adhere to all infection control protocols, safety regulations, and ethical guidelines governing nursing practice at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid SANC (South African Nursing Council) registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in a medical or surgical ward environment.
- Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, with an ability to respond effectively to complex situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities, fostering clear and empathetic interactions.
- Proficiency in administering medications safely and accurately, and performing a wide range of nursing procedures.
- Ability to work effectively and remain calm in a fast-paced, high-pressure healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated unwavering commitment to patient safety, advocacy, and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Computer literacy, including practical experience with electronic patient records systems.
- Empathy, compassion, and a genuinely patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-basic qualification in a specialized field (e.g., Critical Care, Emergency Nursing, Trauma).
- Prior experience with Mediclinic's specific electronic health record system.
- Additional certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Fluency in Afrikaans (beneficial for effective communication with a significant portion of our local patient population).
