Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Refrigeration Technician to join our dynamic team in Brass, Bayelsa. As a Refrigeration Technician at AITEO, you will be instrumental in ensuring the optimal functioning of critical cooling and refrigeration systems across our various operational facilities, camps, and administrative buildings in the region. This pivotal role demands a thorough understanding of refrigeration principles, strong diagnostic capabilities, and a proactive approach to maintenance to support our continuous operations. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a diverse range of refrigeration equipment, from industrial chillers and cold rooms essential for food storage to HVAC systems crucial for comfortable working and living environments. The ideal candidate will possess a deep commitment to safety, efficiency, and reliability, recognizing the critical impact of their work on our overall operational success and employee well-being in a challenging operational environment. This is an on-site role requiring a robust work ethic, problem-solving prowess, and the ability to work independently or as part of a larger technical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various types of refrigeration, air conditioning, and ventilation systems (HVAC) in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on refrigeration units, chillers, cold rooms, ice makers, and split/centralized AC systems.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in refrigeration and HVAC systems using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Effectively handle, recover, and recycle refrigerants in compliance with environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure correct installation and repair.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and service activities, including parts used and hours worked.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, adhering strictly to AITEO’s safety protocols and industry standards (HSE).
  • Respond promptly to emergency call-outs and breakdowns, often outside regular working hours, to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and departments to coordinate work and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Conduct performance tests and make necessary adjustments to optimize system efficiency and longevity.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Refrigeration Technician or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, components, and refrigerants
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical faults in HVAC/R systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all HSE regulations
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid trade test certification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in various environmental conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • HND or OND in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration Technology, or a related field
  • Prior experience working in the oil and gas industry or other heavy industrial environments
  • Certification in specific refrigeration equipment manufacturers (e.g., Carrier, Trane, York)
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Possession of a valid Nigerian driver's license
