Job Description

Career.supersecrets is on the hunt for a highly motivated and musically astute Record Label A&R Coordinator to join our vibrant team in Potchefstroom, North West. This pivotal role is perfect for an individual with an insatiable passion for music, a keen ear for emerging talent, and a deep understanding of the South African music landscape. As an A&R Coordinator, you will be instrumental in supporting our Artist & Repertoire (A&R) division, acting as the eyes and ears on the ground, identifying potential artists, and nurturing existing relationships. You’ll be at the forefront of talent discovery, sifting through demos, attending live performances, and staying abreast of industry trends to spot the next big thing.

Your responsibilities will extend beyond talent scouting; you’ll play a crucial role in coordinating creative projects, managing artist relationships, and ensuring seamless communication between artists, producers, and the label’s various departments. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the A&R team in scouting and identifying new talent across various genres.
  • Manage and organize demo submissions, ensuring timely review and feedback.
  • Attend live shows, showcases, and industry events to discover emerging artists and network with key industry players.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on music trends, market analysis, and competitor activity.
  • Coordinate recording sessions, mixing, mastering, and other production-related logistics.
  • Maintain artist databases and tracking systems, ensuring all information is current and accurate.
  • Facilitate communication between artists, producers, engineers, and internal departments (marketing, legal, etc.).
  • Support the negotiation and execution of artist contracts and agreements.
  • Assist in the development of creative strategies for artist branding and project releases.
  • Prepare reports on artist development, project timelines, and budgetary considerations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in a music-related role, preferably within A&R, artist management, or music publishing.
  • Exceptional ear for music and a comprehensive understanding of diverse musical genres.
  • Strong network within the South African music scene (artists, producers, venues).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with artists and industry professionals.
  • Highly organized with strong project management capabilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with CRM or database management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to travel and attend evening/weekend events as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Arts Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Fluency in additional South African languages.
  • Experience with music production software (e.g., Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools).
  • Knowledge of current digital music trends, streaming platforms, and social media marketing strategies.
  • Understanding of music licensing, publishing, and copyright laws.
