Job Description

Mediclinic Beaufort West is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Radiographer to join our dynamic diagnostic imaging team. As a Radiographer, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to our patients, working with advanced equipment and contributing to accurate diagnoses. You will be responsible for performing a variety of radiological examinations, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and maintaining the highest standards of imaging quality. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-rays, mammography, and potentially CT scans, according to established protocols.
  • Ensure accurate patient positioning and appropriate selection of technical factors to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Adhere strictly to radiation safety guidelines (ALARA principle) for both patients and staff, maintaining detailed records of exposure.
  • Operate and maintain imaging equipment, ensuring its optimal functionality and reporting any malfunctions promptly.
  • Provide clear and compassionate explanations of procedures to patients, ensuring their comfort, privacy, and understanding throughout the process.
  • Collaborate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, imaging logs, and other administrative documentation.
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance programs, staff meetings, and continuous professional development initiatives.
  • Assist with patient transportation and movement as required, ensuring patient safety and dignity.
  • Monitor stock levels of consumables and ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the radiology department.

Required Skills

  • National Diploma or Degree in Radiography from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Radiographer.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in a clinical radiography setting.
  • Proficiency in operating various diagnostic imaging equipment (e.g., X-ray, Mammography).
  • Thorough knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices.
  • Excellent patient care and communication skills, with a compassionate approach.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic computer literacy for patient information systems and record keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and RIS (Radiology Information System).
  • Additional certification or experience in specialized imaging modalities such as CT or MRI.
  • Familiarity with hospital-specific electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Experience in a private hospital setting.
