Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Quality Controller to join our manufacturing team in Krugersdorp, Gauteng. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in upholding RCL Foods’ unwavering commitment to product excellence and food safety. The Quality Controller will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring that all production processes, from raw material receipt to finished product dispatch, adhere strictly to our rigorous quality standards, food safety regulations, and company specifications. This position demands a keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to identifying potential issues, and the ability to implement corrective actions effectively. You will work closely with production teams, providing guidance and training on quality procedures, conducting regular inspections, and maintaining comprehensive documentation of all quality checks. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of raw materials, in-process production, and finished products against established quality parameters and specifications.
- Monitor critical control points (CCPs) and operational prerequisite programs (OPRPs) to ensure compliance with HACCP and other food safety systems.
- Perform regular sensory evaluations, physical, and chemical tests on products and raw materials using specified equipment and procedures.
- Identify, investigate, and report non-conforming products or processes, initiating corrective and preventative actions promptly.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all quality checks, test results, and corrective actions taken.
- Collaborate with production personnel to ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene standards.
- Assist in the development and review of quality control procedures, work instructions, and specifications.
- Provide training and guidance to production staff on quality and food safety standards.
- Participate in internal and external audits (e.g., FSSC 22000, customer audits) and assist in addressing findings.
- Monitor and calibrate quality testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Prepare comprehensive quality reports for management, highlighting trends and areas for improvement.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Quality Control or Quality Assurance role within a food manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety management systems (HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, or similar).
- Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene principles.
- Proficiency in conducting sensory evaluations and basic laboratory testing.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to identify problems, propose solutions, and implement corrective actions effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and training purposes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to follow strict procedures and maintain accurate records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant Diploma or Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field.
- Experience with SAP or other ERP systems for quality data management.
- Internal auditor certification for food safety management systems.
- Knowledge of relevant local and international food regulations and standards.
