Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Remote Quality Control Technician (Food) to join our dedicated team. This unique remote position offers the flexibility of working from your home office, while playing a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality across our supply chain and production processes. You will be instrumental in maintaining our reputation for excellence, utilizing advanced data analysis, virtual auditing techniques, and remote monitoring tools to uphold stringent quality protocols.

As a Remote Quality Control Technician, you will be responsible for meticulously reviewing and analyzing quality data, conducting virtual assessments of supplier facilities and internal operations, and ensuring compliance with all relevant food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, local health standards). This role demands a proactive individual with exceptional organizational skills, a strong understanding of food science principles, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. While the primary mode of operation is remote, there may be occasional travel required for on-site audits, training, or critical issue resolution within the Free State region. Your expertise will contribute directly to the integrity and safety of products enjoyed by millions of South Africans. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct remote monitoring and analysis of production and supply chain quality data.
  • Perform virtual audits of internal and external facilities to ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive quality assurance documentation and records.
  • Investigate and document non-conformances, implementing corrective and preventive actions remotely.
  • Collaborate with production, R&D, and procurement teams to address quality concerns and improve processes.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant national and international food safety regulations and company policies.
  • Prepare detailed reports on quality performance, trends, and audit findings.
  • Provide remote support and guidance on quality-related issues to various stakeholders.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new quality control procedures and systems.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices, new technologies, and regulatory changes in food safety and quality.
  • Coordinate with logistics and warehousing teams to ensure proper handling and storage conditions that maintain product quality.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Quality Control Technician or similar role in the food industry.
  • Strong understanding of food safety management systems (HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000).
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, specific QC software).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, essential for remote collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Familiarity with remote collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Certification in HACCP, FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor, or similar food safety standards.
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems for quality module management.
  • Previous experience in a remote or hybrid work environment.
