Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Quality Control Manager to lead our quality assurance efforts for food and produce operations at our Bothaville facility. This critical role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of quality control, ensuring that our agricultural products and processed goods consistently meet stringent national and international food safety standards, as well as customer specifications. The successful candidate will be a proactive leader, meticulous in their approach, and possess a deep understanding of quality management systems within the food or agricultural processing industry. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and maintaining robust quality control processes from the point of raw material intake through to storage, processing, and final dispatch. This includes monitoring product quality, conducting regular audits, managing a dedicated team of quality control inspectors, and collaborating cross-functionally with production, operations, and logistics teams. Your expertise will safeguard our reputation for excellence, ensure regulatory compliance, and contribute directly to the efficiency and integrity of our supply chain. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive Quality Management Systems (QMS) in alignment with industry standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000) for food and produce.
  • Oversee all quality control activities, including raw material inspection, in-process monitoring, and final product evaluation for grains, fresh produce, and other agricultural commodities.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Quality Control Technicians and Inspectors, providing training, performance management, and career development opportunities.
  • Conduct regular internal and external audits to ensure compliance with food safety regulations, company policies, and customer requirements.
  • Investigate quality deviations, non-conformances, and customer complaints, implementing corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
  • Maintain detailed records of quality control data, test results, and audit findings, preparing regular reports for management.
  • Collaborate with Production, Operations, and Procurement teams to integrate quality standards into all stages of the supply chain.
  • Manage laboratory testing activities, including equipment calibration, method validation, and data interpretation.
  • Stay abreast of relevant food safety legislation, industry best practices, and technological advancements to drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and deliver quality awareness training programs for all relevant staff.
  • Participate in product development and process improvement initiatives to embed quality by design.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Agricultural Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Quality Control or Quality Assurance within the food processing, agriculture, or produce industry
  • Proven experience with HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, or similar food safety management systems
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English; knowledge of Afrikaans is advantageous
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing procedures and equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Certified Lead Auditor (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 22000)
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems for quality module management
  • Demonstrated experience in a large-scale agricultural or food processing environment
