Job Description

Ogilvy Australia is seeking a dynamic and highly strategic Public Relations Strategist to join our integrated communications team in Sydney. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive, innovative, and data-driven PR strategies aligned with client objectives, brand values, and overall business goals.
  • Conduct thorough market research, competitive analysis, and audience segmentation to inform strategic planning and identify key communication opportunities.
  • Craft compelling pitches, press releases, media advisories, executive messaging, and other strategic PR materials for diverse channels.
  • Build and maintain strong, productive relationships with key media contacts, influential journalists, industry thought leaders, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on PR campaign performance, utilising analytics tools to provide actionable insights, demonstrate ROI, and recommend strategic adjustments.
  • Manage client expectations, serve as a primary point of contact for strategic PR counsel, and lead client presentations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with creative, advertising, digital, and social media teams to ensure integrated campaign execution and message consistency.
  • Identify and proactively respond to emerging issues, reputational risks, and opportunities that could impact client perception or brand standing.
  • Mentor junior team members, share knowledge, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.
  • Stay abreast of local and global industry trends, shifts in the media landscape, and best practices in public relations and integrated communications.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in public relations strategy, preferably within a dynamic agency environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful PR strategies and content.
  • Deep and current understanding of the Australian media landscape, including traditional, digital, and social media channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, execute, and manage successful PR campaigns that achieve measurable results and align with strategic objectives.
  • Proficiency in media monitoring and analytics tools (e.g., Meltwater, Cision, etc.).
  • Strong client management, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, analytically, and creatively, with a calm and effective approach under pressure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Strategic Communications, Business).
  • Experience working with both B2B and B2C clients across a diverse range of industries.
  • An existing robust network of media contacts across various sectors in Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis communications and issues management.
  • Proficiency in integrating digital PR, social media strategy, and content marketing into broader communication plans.
