Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or other licensed healthcare professional.
- Monitor and accurately document patient behavior, mood, and physical condition, including vital signs.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding, as needed.
- Facilitate and support therapeutic activities, group sessions, and recreational programs.
- Effectively intervene and de-escalate crisis situations, utilizing approved techniques and protocols.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for all patients, ensuring compliance with facility policies and safety regulations.
- Collaborate actively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses) to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Observe and report patient responses to medication and treatment promptly to the nursing staff.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients, fostering a sense of hope and progress.
- Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, coping strategies, and treatment goals, under professional guidance.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Psychiatric Technician or in a similar mental health support role.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to help individuals with mental health conditions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and effective in high-stress or crisis situations.
- Strong observational skills and meticulous attention to detail for documentation and reporting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (current or willing to obtain upon hire).
- Fundamental knowledge of mental health conditions, therapeutic communication techniques, and crisis intervention strategies.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related healthcare field.
- Completion of a Certified Psychiatric Technician (CPT) program or equivalent certification.
- Previous experience working in an inpatient psychiatric facility, crisis stabilization unit, or acute care setting.
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
