Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Project Manager with a proven track record of successful project delivery to join our dynamic team in Maputo, Mozambique. This is a critical role responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of complex projects, from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, control, and closure, ensuring they align with Sasol’s strategic objectives and global standards. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing projects within our energy and chemicals operations, focusing on infrastructure development, operational efficiency improvements, and sustainable growth initiatives. You will be expected to leverage your PMP certification and extensive project management expertise to navigate technical challenges, stakeholder expectations, and resource constraints, delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role demands a proactive leader who can inspire project teams, foster a culture of excellence, and uphold Sasol’s commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex projects from conception to completion, adhering strictly to Project Management Institute (PMI) standards and Sasol's project management methodologies.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope definition, detailed work breakdown structures, resource allocation, critical path scheduling, and robust budget forecasting.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Manage project budgets, tracking expenditures, and ensuring financial accountability in line with corporate guidelines.
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication among all project stakeholders, including internal teams, contractors, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee the performance of project teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to achieve project milestones and deliverables.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with Sasol’s stringent safety, health, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Prepare and present regular project status reports, highlighting achievements, challenges, and forecasts to senior management.

Required Skills

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in managing complex industrial or energy-related projects.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
  • Exceptional leadership, team-building, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in risk management, budget control, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions under pressure and lead diverse teams.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related technical field.
  • Master’s degree in Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within the Oil & Gas, Chemicals, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese (written and spoken).
  • Experience with SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
