Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Construction Project Manager to join our esteemed team in Tokyo. As a Project Manager, you will be instrumental in overseeing all phases of various construction projects, from initial planning and design coordination through to execution, completion, and handover. This pivotal role requires a leader with a strong technical background, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex projects effectively, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will be the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, driving collaboration and communication to achieve project success. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Japanese construction practices, regulations, and quality standards, coupled with proven experience managing diverse construction teams and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of construction projects from conception to completion, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, including detailed work breakdown structures, critical path analyses, and resource allocation.
- Oversee on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and project specifications.
- Manage project budgets, cost control, and financial reporting, identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Negotiate contracts, scopes of work, and change orders with subcontractors and vendors.
- Ensure timely procurement of materials, equipment, and services.
- Monitor project progress, prepare regular status reports, and conduct project review meetings.
- Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during the project lifecycle promptly and efficiently.
- Mentor and manage project team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Ensure all project documentation is accurately maintained and archived.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 60 months (5 years) of proven experience as a Project Manager in the construction industry, specifically with large-scale building or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations in Japan.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Fluent in English; business-level proficiency in Japanese (N2 or higher) is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, and quality control.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Construction Management or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent.
- Experience with sustainable building practices and green construction.
- Previous experience working with a major Japanese general contractor.
- Advanced proficiency in Japanese language (N1).
