Job Description

CARITAS Rwanda is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Coordinator to join our dynamic team in Kigali. This pivotal role will be instrumental in the successful planning, implementation, and monitoring of various development and humanitarian projects aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable communities across Rwanda. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the entire project life cycle, from inception to evaluation, ensuring adherence to project goals, timelines, and budgets, as well as donor requirements and organizational standards. You will work closely with local communities, government stakeholders, and implementing partners, fostering strong relationships and promoting collaborative efforts that enhance project impact and sustainability.

This role requires a proactive individual capable of navigating complex project environments, adapting to evolving needs, and communicating effectively with diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of assigned projects in accordance with CARITAS Rwanda and donor guidelines.
  • Develop detailed project work plans, budgets, and procurement plans, ensuring efficient resource allocation and utilization.
  • Manage project budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure financial accountability and compliance with organizational policies.
  • Oversee project staff and consultants, providing guidance, support, and performance management to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with local communities, government authorities, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare comprehensive progress reports, donor reports, and other project documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conduct regular field visits to project sites to monitor activities, assess progress, identify challenges, and provide technical support.
  • Facilitate coordination meetings, workshops, and training sessions for project staff and partners.
  • Ensure mainstreaming of cross-cutting themes such as gender, protection, and environmental sustainability into project activities.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts by assisting in proposal development and concept note writing for new projects.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in project coordination or management within an NGO or humanitarian setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in project cycle management (PCM), including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Strong financial management and budget oversight skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with fluency in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to CARITAS Rwanda’s mission, vision, and values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency in Kinyarwanda and/or French.
  • Experience with donor reporting for international organizations.
  • Knowledge of specific thematic areas such as WASH, food security, health, or education in the Rwandan context.
  • Experience in capacity building and training of local partners and communities.
