Job Description
We are seeking a highly professional, reliable, and experienced Private Driver to join our dedicated team at Akagera Game Lodge. This vital role involves ensuring the safe, comfortable, and timely transportation of our esteemed guests and occasionally staff, both within Akagera National Park and for transfers to and from various locations, including Kigali and other areas of interest. The ideal candidate will possess an impeccable driving record, a deep understanding of local routes and traffic regulations, and an unwavering commitment to outstanding customer service. You will be the face of Akagera Game Lodge for many of our guests, and your professionalism, punctuality, and friendly demeanor are paramount. Beyond driving, this role includes daily vehicle maintenance checks, ensuring the cleanliness and optimal functioning of the lodge’s vehicles, and maintaining detailed journey logs. You must be adept at navigating diverse road conditions, including unpaved park roads, while prioritizing the safety and comfort of all passengers. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport guests, ensuring their comfort and adherence to scheduled itineraries.
- Conduct thorough daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain the cleanliness and optimal condition of the lodge's fleet vehicles, inside and out.
- Strictly adhere to all Rwandan traffic laws, park regulations, and company safety protocols.
- Plan optimal routes, considering traffic, road conditions, and guest preferences, using navigation tools as needed.
- Provide courteous and professional assistance to guests, including luggage handling and answering general queries.
- Maintain accurate records of journeys, fuel consumption, mileage, and vehicle maintenance.
- Represent Akagera Game Lodge with professionalism and a positive attitude at all times.
- Assist with other logistical or transport-related tasks as required by management.
Required Skills
- Valid Rwandan driving license (Class B or equivalent for passenger vehicles)
- Minimum 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a hospitality or tourism setting
- Excellent knowledge of road safety regulations and defensive driving techniques
- Proficiency in Kinyarwanda and English, both spoken and written
- Strong geographical knowledge of Rwamagana, Eastern Province, and key routes across Rwanda
- Basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting skills
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- High level of punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving in Akagera National Park or similar wildlife areas
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Additional language proficiency (e.g., French, Swahili)
- Clean driving record with no major violations
- Proven ability to work independently and manage time effectively
