This is a crucial, full-time role where your primary responsibility will be the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of a diverse range of goods, packages, and parcels across specified routes within Lagos State and occasionally to inter-state destinations. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate company vehicles (vans, small trucks, etc.) for the transportation of goods, packages, and parcels.
- Adhere strictly to all Nigerian traffic laws, road signs, and internal company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, documenting any mechanical issues, maintenance needs, or safety concerns.
- Ensure timely delivery and collection of items, consistently meeting scheduled deadlines and delivery windows.
- Load and unload cargo with utmost care, ensuring proper handling, securing, and organization of goods to prevent damage or loss.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of deliveries, pickups, vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents or deviations encountered.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers regarding delivery status, potential delays, or unforeseen issues.
- Represent GIG Logistics professionally at all times, maintaining a courteous, helpful, and customer-focused demeanor.
- Assist with basic vehicle maintenance tasks (e.g., checking fluid levels, tire pressure) and ensure the vehicle is kept clean and tidy.
- Proactively identify and resolve minor delivery issues or escalate complex problems to the appropriate supervisory or departmental personnel.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including those related to security, data protection, and operational efficiency.
- Effectively utilize navigation tools and optimize routes for maximum efficiency and reduced transit times.
Required Skills
- Valid Nigerian driver's license (minimum Class E, with endorsement for commercial vehicles where applicable).
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable professional driving experience, preferably within a logistics, courier, or transport services setting.
- Excellent knowledge of Lagos road networks, major routes, and traffic regulations, particularly within Alimosho LGA.
- Strong understanding and consistent adherence to advanced road safety practices and defensive driving techniques.
- Proven ability to perform basic vehicle inspections, trouble-shoot minor mechanical issues, and conduct routine maintenance checks.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to safely lift and move heavy packages (up to 25kg) with assistance when necessary.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- A demonstrated track record of reliability, punctuality, responsibility, and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also being a collaborative team player.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for accurate record-keeping, delivery manifest management, and simple calculations.
Preferred Qualifications
- SSCE/GCE/NECO or equivalent educational qualification.
- Professional driving certifications or advanced defensive driving course completion.
- Experience with GPS devices, route optimization software, and mobile delivery applications.
- Familiarity with driving various vehicle types, including small trucks (e.g., Canter) and large vans.
- Previous experience working for a recognized logistics company with a structured delivery system.
