Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Production Manager to join our robust manufacturing facility in Johannesburg. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our production operations, ensuring optimal efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met or exceeded. This pivotal role requires a strong leader who can inspire and manage a diverse team, driving continuous improvement initiatives and fostering a culture of operational excellence. You will be instrumental in translating production plans into actionable strategies, managing resources effectively, and collaborating cross-functionally to achieve production targets and business objectives. The Production Manager will be accountable for managing budgets, optimising workflows, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee daily production operations, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of high-quality products.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor production plans, schedules, and budgets to meet output targets and cost objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production supervisors and operators, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Implement and enforce strict safety protocols and quality control measures to ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and optimise processes.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate reports on production output, quality, and efficiency, providing insights and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, maintenance, and engineering departments to ensure smooth operations and address any production challenges.
  • Manage raw material inventory, equipment maintenance, and resource allocation to prevent production delays and minimise downtime.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in production management within a high-volume manufacturing environment (packaging preferred).
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a track record of motivating and developing staff.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient in using ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and other production management software.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical) or Production Management.
  • Relevant certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt.
  • Experience in the packaging industry or a related continuous process manufacturing sector.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Business Administration or Operations Management.
