Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Production Manager to lead our dynamic production team at our Londonderry facility. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of the manufacturing process, from raw material intake to finished product dispatch, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety are consistently met. As a Production Manager, you will be responsible for optimising production schedules, managing operational budgets, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. You will lead a diverse team of production operatives, supervisors, and skilled butchers, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and professional development. Your remit will cover everything from ensuring that our advanced machinery operates smoothly, to meticulously adhering to stringent food safety regulations, including HACCP and BRC standards. This role is ideal for a proactive leader with a proven track record in food manufacturing, particularly within the red meat sector, who can inspire performance, drive innovation, and maintain operational excellence in a fast-paced environment. You will play a crucial role in maintaining our reputation for quality, ensuring that every product leaving our facility meets the rigorous expectations of our customers and consumers. The role demands strong analytical capabilities to interpret production data, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective solutions, alongside excellent interpersonal skills to manage and motivate a large and varied workforce, comprising both highly skilled and semi-skilled professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily production operations, ensuring adherence to production schedules and targets.
  • Manage and lead a diverse team of production staff, including supervisors and operatives, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Implement and monitor strict quality control procedures, ensuring compliance with food safety (HACCP), BRC, and company standards.
  • Optimise production processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
  • Manage operational budgets, control costs, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure all health and safety regulations are strictly followed, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Coordinate with other departments such as supply chain, quality assurance, and engineering to ensure seamless operations.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate professional development for the production team.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and implement effective corrective actions.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a Production Manager role within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, capable of motivating and developing a large workforce.
  • In-depth understanding of food safety regulations (HACCP, BRC) and quality assurance principles.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Proficiency in using production management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in the red meat processing sector.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent.
  • Formal qualification in Health & Safety (e.g., NEBOSH).
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
