Key Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor and interpret real-time process data from Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and other monitoring platforms for multiple synfuels units.
- Identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot process deviations, alarms, and upsets remotely, determining root causes and recommending or implementing corrective actions.
- Optimise plant performance by adjusting control parameters remotely to achieve desired production targets, energy efficiency, and product quality specifications.
- Collaborate effectively with on-site field operators, supervisors, and engineering teams to coordinate operational activities, maintenance schedules, and emergency responses.
- Develop and implement remote operating procedures and guidelines to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Generate detailed operational reports, log anomalies, and contribute to post-incident analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety, health, environmental, and quality (SHEQ) policies and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the development and testing of new remote monitoring technologies and digital transformation projects.
- Provide remote technical guidance and support during plant start-ups, shutdowns, and abnormal operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a Process Operator in a heavy industrial environment, preferably in synfuels, refining, petrochemicals, or chemical processing.
- Proven ability to interpret complex P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and control logic.
- Expert proficiency in operating and troubleshooting Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and SCADA systems (e.g., Yokogawa, Honeywell, Siemens).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective remote collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.
- High level of computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and specialized process simulation software.
- Deep understanding of process safety management principles and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Diploma or Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with Advanced Process Control (APC) systems and alarm management software.
- Familiarity with data analytics tools and visualization platforms (e.g., OSIsoft PI, Tableau, Power BI).
- Prior experience in a remote operations center or similar monitoring role.
- Certification in relevant process safety or operational excellence methodologies.
