Job Description

KNPC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Process Engineer to join our dynamic refinery operations team in Ahmadi, Kuwait. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in optimizing the performance, safety, and efficiency of our advanced refinery units. The successful candidate will apply their expertise in chemical engineering principles to monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot complex process systems, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to stringent operational targets and regulatory standards. You will be responsible for conducting detailed process simulations, developing innovative solutions to operational challenges, and collaborating cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and project teams. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the world’s leading national oil companies, working with cutting-edge technology and contributing directly to the strategic goals of Kuwait’s energy sector. Your day-to-day will involve identifying areas for process optimization, implementing best practices to enhance reliability and profitability, and participating in hazard and operability studies (HAZOPs) to uphold the highest safety standards. You will also play a key role in supporting the commissioning of new units or modifications, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance from the outset. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze the performance of various refinery process units (e.g., Crude Distillation, Hydrocracking, FCC, Naphtha Hydrotreating), identifying opportunities for optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Conduct detailed process simulations and modeling using specialized software to evaluate proposed changes, debottlenecking projects, and troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to refinery operations personnel on process control, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Investigate process upsets, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventative actions to minimize downtime and enhance reliability.
  • Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies, Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), and other safety reviews to ensure the integrity and safety of refinery processes.
  • Develop, update, and maintain process engineering documentation, including P&IDs, PFDs, operating manuals, and design specifications.
  • Support the design, review, and commissioning of new capital projects and modifications to existing refinery units.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and best practices to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance product quality.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and analyses for management on process performance, project updates, and operational challenges.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all KNPC safety, health, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience as a Process Engineer within a refinery or petrochemical complex.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Hysys, PRO/II, Petro-SIM).
  • Strong understanding of refinery unit operations and associated technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of international industry standards and codes (e.g., API, ASME, ASTM).
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with advanced process control systems (APC).
  • Proven track record in energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.
  • Experience in commissioning and start-up activities for new process units.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies.
