Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a caseload of adult offenders on probation, parole, or supervised release, ensuring compliance with court orders and conditions.
- Conduct regular interviews, home visits, and field checks to monitor probationer activities and ensure adherence to supervision plans.
- Perform drug and alcohol testing, interpret results, and implement appropriate interventions or sanctions.
- Develop and implement individualized case management plans that address specific offender needs, risks, and rehabilitation goals.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, social service providers, treatment centers, and other community partners to facilitate offender rehabilitation and reintegration.
- Prepare detailed and accurate reports, including presentence investigations, violation reports, progress reports, and sentencing recommendations for courts and parole boards.
- Respond to probation violations by conducting investigations, preparing warrants, and testifying in court as required.
- Provide guidance and support to probationers, connecting them with educational, vocational, housing, mental health, and substance abuse resources.
- Assess and manage risk levels of probationers, implementing strategies to reduce recidivism and enhance public safety.
- Maintain precise and confidential records of all contacts, observations, and interventions in accordance with departmental policies and legal requirements.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of criminal justice principles, correctional practices, and legal procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with diverse populations.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, critical thinking, and decisive action in high-pressure situations.
- Proficiency in conducting interviews, assessments, and investigations.
- Capability to manage a demanding caseload and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation for field duties.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including drug screening and psychological evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- One to three years of experience in probation, parole, social work, law enforcement, or a related correctional setting.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) to better serve diverse communities.
