Job Description

Maputo International School (MIS) is seeking a dedicated, innovative, and enthusiastic Primary School Teacher to become an integral part of our esteemed faculty. This pivotal role involves delivering an engaging and comprehensive curriculum to students within the primary years, fostering a stimulating and supportive classroom environment that encourages academic curiosity, social-emotional development, and personal growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering high-quality, inquiry-based lessons across all primary subjects, including literacy, numeracy, science, and social studies, utilizing differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and styles of our multicultural student body. You will play a crucial role in cultivating a positive and inclusive classroom culture where every child feels valued, respected, challenged, and inspired to achieve their full potential. This position demands a passion for educating young minds, a deep understanding of pedagogical best practices, and a commitment to collaborative teamwork within our dynamic international community. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons across all primary curriculum areas (e.g., English, Math, Science, Social Studies).
  • Develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities within a multicultural classroom.
  • Assess student progress regularly, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of achievement.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages active participation and inquiry-based learning.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, specialists, and support staff to enhance student learning and well-being.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and development.
  • Participate in curriculum development, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, including recess, lunch, and school events.
  • Contribute to the school's extracurricular program or community initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field with a teaching qualification/certification.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in a primary school setting, preferably in an international school environment.
  • Strong understanding of child development and primary pedagogical best practices.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and ability to create a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Education or a relevant specialization.
  • Experience with inquiry-based learning frameworks (e.g., PYP, IPC).
  • Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Portuguese).
  • Experience teaching in a multicultural or international school setting.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and its integration into the classroom.
