Key Responsibilities
- Sort and prepare mail, parcels, and packages for delivery accurately and efficiently.
- Load and unload delivery vehicles, ensuring items are organised for your route.
- Deliver mail and packages to residential and business addresses on foot or by vehicle, adhering to assigned routes and schedules.
- Ensure the security and safe handling of all mail items throughout the delivery process.
- Provide excellent customer service, interacting positively and professionally with the public.
- Handle enquiries and resolve minor delivery issues, escalating complex problems when necessary.
- Operate delivery vehicles safely and responsibly, complying with all road safety regulations.
- Report any issues, incidents, or potential hazards encountered during delivery rounds.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, collections, and any customer interactions.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a dedicated team to meet service targets.
- Perform routine checks on delivery vehicles and report any maintenance needs.
Required Skills
- Full UK Driving Licence (with no more than 6 penalty points, essential for roles requiring driving).
- Ability to walk long distances and lift/carry mailbags (up to 20kg) throughout your shift.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills to manage daily routes efficiently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with colleagues and the public.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently, navigating routes and making timely deliveries in all weather conditions.
- Good understanding of Londonderry's local geography or the ability to quickly learn new routes.
- A positive, resilient, and customer-focused attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a delivery, logistics, or customer service role.
- Familiarity with Londonderry streets and local areas.
- Experience driving light commercial vehicles.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for administrative tasks and parcel scanning.
- Experience with handheld delivery devices or postal scanning technology.
