Job Description
The Charleston Police Department is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Police Officers. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, responding to calls for service, investigating crimes, and interacting with the community. This role requires individuals who are committed to upholding the highest ethical standards, possess excellent communication skills, and are able to handle stressful situations effectively. You will work as part of a team, collaborating with other officers to ensure the safety and security of our community. Our officers regularly participate in specialized training programs that prepare them to handle a wide range of situations, always keeping the safety of the public and their colleagues at the forefront. Beyond the core duties, officers are actively engaged in community outreach programs, building positive relationships with residents, schools, and community groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent crime and maintain order
- Respond to calls for service, including emergencies and non-emergencies
- Investigate crimes, collect evidence, and prepare reports
- Enforce laws and ordinances
- Make arrests and transport suspects
- Testify in court
- Interact with the community and build positive relationships
- Participate in community outreach programs
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills

- Prior law enforcement experience
- Certification as a law enforcement officer
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
