Job Description

WASAC is seeking a motivated and hardworking Plumber Assistant to join our dedicated team in Rwamagana, Eastern Province, with a specific focus on pipe fitting. This is an exceptional ‘on-the-job’ learning opportunity for individuals who are keen to develop practical skills and build a solid foundation in plumbing and water infrastructure. As a Plumber Assistant, you will work closely under the direct supervision of experienced plumbers and technicians, gaining hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water pipes and related systems. Your role will be crucial in supporting our mission to deliver clean and reliable water to communities.

This position is ideal for someone with little to no prior professional experience in plumbing but possesses a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and the physical stamina required for manual labor. You will be trained in various aspects of pipe fitting, including measuring, cutting, threading, bending, and joining pipes using different materials and techniques. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified plumbers and pipe fitters in all aspects of their work, primarily focusing on pipe installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Prepare work sites by gathering, organizing, and transporting tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and assemble pipes according to specifications, under supervision.
  • Dig trenches and clear pathways for new pipe installations or repairs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools are properly cleaned and stored after use.
  • Learn and strictly adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Support in the inspection of plumbing systems to identify issues and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Perform general labor tasks as required to support plumbing operations.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning new techniques and adapting to various work challenges.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding progress and potential issues.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Strong willingness to learn and follow instructions.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices in a construction or utility environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Punctuality and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in any manual labor or construction-related role (even informal).
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Valid Rwandan driver's license (Category B).
