Job Description

Palabora Mining Company (PMC) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Plumber to join our Facilities Management and Maintenance team in Phalaborwa, Limpopo. This is a critical full-time role designed for an individual who thrives in a challenging industrial environment and is committed to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our extensive plumbing infrastructure. As a Plumber at PMC, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the continuous operation of our mining facilities, administrative buildings, and residential areas by expertly managing all aspects of plumbing systems.

This “Hybrid” role requires a blend of on-site presence for hands-on work and potential off-site (remote) coordination or administrative tasks, as per project requirements and team schedules. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of water supply, drainage, and waste disposal systems, as well as specialized industrial plumbing. Your expertise will be crucial in diagnosing complex issues, implementing effective solutions, and adhering strictly to safety and quality standards within our operational context. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, fixtures, and components across various company properties.
  • Inspect and test pipes, plumbing systems, and fixtures for leaks and other problems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex plumbing issues in industrial, commercial, and residential settings.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant plumbing codes, regulations, and safety standards (OHS Act).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings to plan plumbing installations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing infrastructure to extend asset lifespan and reduce breakdowns.
  • Collaborate effectively with other artisans (e.g., electricians, boilermakers) and contractors on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Provide emergency plumbing services as required, responding promptly to urgent maintenance calls.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system conditions.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a qualified Plumber, preferably in an industrial or heavy commercial setting.
  • Valid Red Seal Plumber qualification (or equivalent recognized trade test certificate).
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, regulations, and best practices in South Africa.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and diagnostic skills for plumbing systems.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transport.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • N3/N4 in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with specialized industrial plumbing systems (e.g., high-pressure lines, chemical transfer).
  • First Aid certification and Basic Fire Fighting training.
  • Working at Heights and Confined Space entry permits.
