Job Description

Touro Infirmary is seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic Emergency Department team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven PA to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced and supportive environment. As a Physician Assistant in our ED, you will play a crucial role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients across a broad spectrum of medical conditions, from acute injuries to complex illnesses. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of emergency physicians, nurses, residents, and support staff, contributing to a collaborative atmosphere focused on optimal patient outcomes.

Your day-to-day will involve evaluating patients, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating comprehensive treatment plans, performing minor procedures, and providing patient education. We are looking for a PA who is confident in their clinical skills, possesses excellent communication abilities, and is committed to delivering compassionate care under pressure. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and obtain detailed patient histories in the Emergency Department.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory, imaging, and other studies, to aid in diagnosis.
  • Develop, implement, and manage patient treatment plans in consultation with supervising physicians.
  • Perform minor procedures such as suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, and foreign body removal.
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and therapies according to established protocols and state regulations.
  • Provide clear and thorough patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
  • Document all patient encounters, assessments, treatments, and plans accurately and efficiently in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing medical education.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills

  • Current PA licensure in the State of Louisiana or eligibility to obtain.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Physician Assistant, preferably in an Emergency Department or urgent care setting.
  • Experience with diverse patient populations and complex medical cases.
  • Additional certifications such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Vietnamese, French).
