As a Photography Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations during event shoots. Your responsibilities will range from setting up and breaking down equipment, managing lighting, and organizing accessories, to assisting with shot lists and providing on-the-spot technical support. This position is perfect for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, possesses a foundational understanding of photography principles, and is keen to expand their expertise. Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead photographers with setting up, adjusting, and dismantling photographic equipment, including cameras, lenses, tripods, lighting, and backdrops.
- Manage and organize camera gear, ensuring all equipment is accounted for, clean, and in proper working order before and after events.
- Act as a second shooter or provide basic photo capture when directed by the lead photographer, focusing on candid moments or specific details.
- Help with lighting adjustments, holding reflectors, diffusers, or flash units to achieve optimal illumination for various shots.
- Assist with on-site troubleshooting of equipment issues.
- Maintain a detailed inventory of all assigned equipment.
- Charge batteries and ensure memory cards are formatted and ready for use.
- Support the photography team with administrative tasks related to event preparation.
- Ensure client satisfaction by maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of photographic principles (aperture, shutter speed, ISO)
- Familiarity with various camera equipment and accessories
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical stamina to stand, move, and carry equipment for extended periods
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic
- Proficiency in English and Swahili
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience assisting photographers or working on event crews (even volunteer)
- Enrollment in or completion of a photography course or related vocational training
- Basic understanding of photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop)
- Valid driving license (Kenyan) and ability to navigate Malindi and surrounding areas
