Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Packaging Worker to join our dynamic team at the Newcastle Works factory. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the final stages of our steel product manufacturing process, ensuring that all finished goods are securely and correctly packaged, labeled, and prepared for dispatch. This position requires a keen eye for detail, adherence to strict safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced industrial environment. As a Packaging Worker, you will be an integral part of our production line, contributing directly to the quality and timely delivery of our products to customers. The work involves handling steel products of varying sizes and weights, operating packaging machinery, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor packaging machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Inspect finished steel products for quality, ensuring they meet specified standards before packaging.
- Accurately package, label, and band steel products according to company guidelines and customer specifications.
- Stack and organize packaged products in designated areas, preparing them for warehousing or shipment.
- Perform routine quality checks on packaging materials and finished packages.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
- Assist with material handling, including loading and unloading packaging supplies.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, product defects, or safety concerns immediately to supervisors.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and production targets are met.
Required Skills
- Matric certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for reading labels and counts.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays as required by production schedules.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to safety procedures in a factory setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (6+ months) in a manufacturing, factory, or warehouse environment.
- Experience operating packaging or light industrial machinery.
- Forklift operator certificate or willingness to undergo training.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor machine adjustments.
