Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations using various diagnostic instruments and techniques to detect vision defects and eye diseases.
- Diagnose and manage ocular diseases and conditions, providing appropriate treatment or referrals to ophthalmologists when necessary.
- Prescribe and fit corrective lenses, including spectacles and contact lenses, ensuring optimal vision correction and patient comfort.
- Educate patients on proper eye care practices, eyewear maintenance, and the implications of their diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including examination findings, diagnoses, treatments, and prescriptions.
- Counsel patients on lens options, frames, and other optical products, assisting them in making informed choices.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals within the clinic to provide integrated patient care and enhance patient outcomes.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in optometry, eye care technology, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development.
- Manage patient complaints and concerns related to vision care, ensuring high levels of patient satisfaction and fostering long-term relationships.
- Participate in community outreach programs and health awareness initiatives as required, promoting eye health within the broader community.
Required Skills
- Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid license to practice Optometry in Nigeria.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) clinical experience as an Optometrist.
- Proficiency in performing comprehensive eye examinations and diagnosing ocular conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach and strong empathy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of making sound clinical judgments.
- Ability to operate and interpret results from various ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and technologies.
- Commitment to continuous professional development, lifelong learning, and adherence to ethical standards in practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a busy optical retail or clinical setting with a diverse patient base.
- Specialization or advanced training in specific areas of optometry (e.g., low vision, pediatric optometry, contact lenses, ocular therapeutics).
- Membership in recognized professional optometric associations (e.g., Nigerian Optometric Association).
- Fluency in additional local languages beyond English, which could include Hausa or Yoruba, to better serve our diverse patient population.
