Job Description

Sasol Mozambique is seeking an experienced and dynamic Operations Manager to oversee our complex onshore and offshore operations. This pivotal role involves leading the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of all operational activities related to natural gas extraction, processing, transportation, and potentially associated offshore logistics. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness across all facets of our integrated operations. You will be responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, fostering a high-performance culture, and managing significant stakeholder relationships, including regulatory bodies, joint venture partners, and local communities. This role demands a strong leader with a proven track record in managing large-scale energy infrastructure, capable of navigating the unique challenges and opportunities of operating in Mozambique’s dynamic environment. You will champion operational integrity and deliver sustainable value to the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operational strategies that align with Sasol's corporate objectives, ensuring optimal production, safety, and environmental performance for both onshore and offshore assets.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of operational professionals, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of gas processing facilities, pipelines, and associated infrastructure, ensuring reliable and efficient operations.
  • Manage budgets, control operational expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local and international regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices (HSE, quality, security).
  • Drive operational excellence initiatives, including reliability-centered maintenance, asset integrity management, and process optimization.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with government authorities, regulatory bodies, local communities, and joint venture partners.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for both onshore and offshore scenarios.
  • Monitor operational performance against key metrics, prepare comprehensive reports, and present findings to senior management.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in operations management within the oil & gas or petrochemical industry, with a focus on both onshore and offshore assets.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and lead large, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Deep understanding of natural gas processing, pipeline operations, and asset integrity management.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) regulations and best practices, with a commitment to zero harm.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in English; Portuguese language skills are highly advantageous.
  • Sound financial acumen and experience with budget management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in Project Management (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, or similar operational excellence methodologies.
  • Experience working in emerging markets or developing countries, particularly within Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Familiarity with Mozambican regulatory frameworks and local content requirements.
