Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, mobility, and feeding, always maintaining patient dignity and comfort.
- Monitor and accurately record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure), immediately reporting any significant changes or concerns to the nursing staff.
- Assist registered nurses with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments as directed and within the scope of practice.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe patient environment, including changing bed linens, tidying rooms, and ensuring medical equipment is clean and organized.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their families, providing emotional support and responding to their non-clinical needs promptly.
- Document care provided and observations made accurately and promptly in patient records, adhering to all confidentiality protocols.
- Assist with patient transportation within the hospital as required, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Ensure proper infection control practices are followed at all times, including meticulous hand hygiene and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, ethical guidelines, and relevant healthcare regulations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Nursing Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, or similar support role
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong empathy and a patient-centered approach to care
- Ability to monitor and accurately record vital signs
- Knowledge of basic patient care and hygiene protocols
- Understanding of infection control principles
- Ability to work effectively within a team
- Attention to detail and strong observational skills
- Basic computer literacy for documentation
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Nursing Auxiliary, Ancillary Health Care, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary (if applicable to qualification).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience in a private hospital setting.
- Fluency in Afrikaans or other indigenous languages spoken in the Northern Cape.
