Job Description

We are seeking an exceptionally driven, strategic, and results-oriented National Sales Manager to spearhead our FMCG distribution efforts across Nigeria. This is a pivotal leadership role for an experienced professional ready to take ownership of our national sales strategy, drive market share growth, and optimize our extensive distribution network. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing aggressive sales plans, leading and mentoring a high-performing sales team, and cultivating strong relationships with key distributors, modern trade partners, and traditional trade channels. You will be instrumental in identifying new market opportunities, launching innovative products, and ensuring the achievement of ambitious revenue and profitability targets. This role demands a profound understanding of the Nigerian FMCG landscape, exceptional analytical capabilities, and a proven track record of consistently exceeding sales objectives in a competitive environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement national sales strategies aligned with company objectives to achieve ambitious volume, value, and market share targets across all product categories.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a large national sales force, including regional sales managers and field teams, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage national distribution channels, ensuring optimal product availability, visibility, and merchandising standards across modern trade, traditional trade, and key accounts.
  • Oversee sales budget management, forecasting, and reporting, providing regular insights and actionable recommendations to senior management.
  • Identify new market opportunities and expand distribution into untapped territories to drive incremental growth.
  • Negotiate and manage national-level agreements with key accounts, distributors, and strategic partners.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and consumer behavior to adapt sales strategies proactively and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance departments to ensure seamless execution of sales initiatives and product launches.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in sales processes, technology adoption, and team capabilities.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in FMCG sales, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership/national management role.
  • Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing large sales teams across diverse geographical regions.
  • Strong understanding of the Nigerian FMCG market, including modern trade, traditional trade, and key account management.
  • Exceptional strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in sales analytics tools, CRM software, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to dynamic market conditions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree (MBA) in Business, Sales, or Marketing.
  • Certifications in Sales Management or Leadership.
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in new product market entry and expansion strategies.
  • Prior experience working with a major beverage or food FMCG company.
