Job Description

We are seeking a warm, dedicated, and experienced Nanny/Childcare Assistant to join our team at Old Louisville Montessori School. This essential role involves providing direct care and supervision for our young learners, supporting the lead teachers, and contributing to a positive and enriching classroom and school environment. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for working with children, a deep understanding of child development, and the ability to foster a safe, creative, and engaging atmosphere. You will be responsible for assisting with daily routines, facilitating educational activities, ensuring the well-being and safety of all children, and communicating effectively with both staff and parents. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive and compassionate care to children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Assist lead teachers in preparing and maintaining a clean, organized, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, meal times, and nap/rest periods.
  • Facilitate and engage children in age-appropriate educational, creative, and recreational activities.
  • Support children in developing self-help skills, including potty training, dressing, and personal hygiene.
  • Observe and document children's progress, behaviors, and needs, reporting any concerns to the lead teacher or director.
  • Assist with light meal preparation and serving, adhering to dietary restrictions and school policies.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with colleagues, parents, and guardians regarding children's daily activities and progress.
  • Implement school policies and procedures, including emergency protocols and health guidelines.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in childcare or an educational setting (minimum 2 years).
  • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate activities for young children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing demeanor.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain composure in a dynamic environment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain promptly).
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and engage in physical activities with children.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Montessori Assistant Certificate or familiarity with Montessori principles.
  • Experience working in a licensed childcare facility or school.
  • Knowledge of local licensing regulations for childcare facilities.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
