Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, small parts, and possibly cardiac studies, adhering to established protocols.
- Operate and maintain sophisticated ultrasound equipment, ensuring optimal image quality and patient safety.
- Position patients correctly for procedures, ensuring their comfort, privacy, and safety throughout the examination.
- Review patient medical history and relevant clinical information to tailor the sonographic examination.
- Identify and document abnormalities, critical findings, and measurements accurately for interpretation by radiologists.
- Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures in a clear and empathetic manner, and answering questions.
- Collaborate closely with radiologists, referring physicians, and other healthcare team members.
- Maintain precise and thorough patient records and documentation within the hospital's electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Ensure the cleanliness and sterilization of ultrasound equipment and examination rooms.
- Participate in quality assurance programs, staff meetings, and continuing education activities.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including HIPAA.
Required Skills
- Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.
- Current certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in at least one specialty (e.g., Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Sonographer in a hospital setting.
- Proficiency in performing various ultrasound examinations, including general, vascular, and OB/GYN.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and PACS.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional ARDMS certifications (e.g., RVT for vascular, RDCS for cardiac).
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
- Experience with advanced ultrasound technologies and procedures.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills.
